Michael Basman Legacy Magazines

Rabbits Review and Popular Chess

Rabbits Review and Popular Chess were magazines published in the UK between 1979 and 1987, aimed at amateur chess players graded below about 150 BCF.

The first 6 issues of Rabbits Review were edited by B.P. Floyd, with Michael Basman, Simon Webb and Tim Harding as regular contributors. From issue 7 onwards, Michael Basman took over editorship, and ran it until 1981 after which the magazine was relaunched as Popular Chess in 1983.

Audio Chess News and Better Chess

In between Rabbits Review and Popular Chess, Mike was assisted by James Pratt in producing a run of 6 issues of Audio Chess News, and after the run of Popular Chess, Mike also produced 3 issues of Better Chess in 1988.


The Foundation has scanned and indexed all of these issues with the possible exception of Popular Chess issue 16 which if it was published has been lost.
